  • Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause illness ranging from a common cold to severe disease.
  • Symptoms include fever, cough runny, nose, sore throat, and breathing difficulties, with acute respiratory distress syndrome in severe cases.

Where & How did the COVID-19 infection start?
  • The first known and reported case emerged from the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 19.
  • The Source of the outbreak has not been identified but 2 research papers have pointed to bats and snakes as the possible culprits.

How many Coronavirus cases have been confirmed?
  • Currently there are more than 4,000 known cases.
  • Around 106 people have succumbed to the disease. Most experts expect this number to rise.

How is India responding to Coronavirus?
  • According to the Health Ministry, 9150 passengers have been screened for the novel coronavirus. No such case has been reported in India till now.
  • People traveling from China are being screened at 7 airports - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad & Cochin.

Is there a course of TREATMENT? There is no vaccine to combat coronavirus yet, however, here's what you can do:
  • Set up a humidifier in your home/bedroom
  • Take hot showers to relieve sore throats & cough
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Contact your doctor to start the medication if symptoms persist

  • Wash your hands with soap frequently
  • Avoid close contact with those displaying symptoms
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing/sneezing
  • Consume only thoroughly cooked meat & eggs
  • Avoid direct contact with live animals at markets

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Chinese authorities identified the new coronavirus, which has resulted in more than a thousand confirmed cases in China, including cases outside Wuhan City. Additional cases have been identified in a growing number of other international locations, including the United States. There are ongoing investigations to learn more.
