  • A United Nations human rights investigator on Myanmar voiced deep concern at Bangladesh's plan to relocate 23,000 Rohingya refugees to a remote island in April, saying that it may not be habitable, creating a potential "new crisis".

  • Bangladesh says moving refugees to Bhasan Char - whose name means "floating island" - will ease chronic overcrowding in its camps at Cox's Bazar, which hold some 730,000 Rohingya. The UN says the Muslim minority fled mass killings and rapes committed during an army crackdown in western Rakhine state since August 2017.

Japan announces Rs 22 lakh for Kolkata museum

  • The Japanese government announced a donation of some Rs 22 lakh ($31,800) to the Rabindra Bharati Museum in Kolkata in a bid to strengthen historical and cultural ties with India. To refurbish the Japan Gallery of the museum, a MoU will be signed between the Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Masayuki Taga, and the Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury.

Government Approved a National Mission on E-Mobility To Boost EV Manufacturing

  • The Centre formed National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage to finalise the framework for a Phased Manufacturing Program (PMP). Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog has been appointed to lead the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee of the mission who will recommend and drive the strategies for transformative mobility in India.

  • PMP will be valid for five years until 2024 to localise production across the entire electric vehicles value chain, such as formulating strategies on manufacturing EVs, its specification and standards, etc.

  • Cabinet last month approved a Rs. 10,000 crore initiative under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles II (FAME II) scheme, marking a significant push for hybrid and electric vehicles in the country.

  • At least 263 recruits had assembled at Jaish-e-Muhammed’s terror camp in Balakot just five days before the IAF strike on [latex]26^{th}[/latex] February, evidence accessed by Times Now has revealed.

  • At the time of the attack, almost all The trainers and recruits had access to mobile phones, the signals of which were closely tracked by the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO). After the IAF strikes, all the signals disappeared without a trace.

Government may miss disbursal target of Rs 3 lakh crore Mudra loans

  • The Centre could miss the FY19 Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) target of disbursing Rs 3 lakh crore worth of loans even as concerns mount in some banking circles that the lack of credit history for many borrowers could cause an increase in bad debt.

  • Public sector banks are saying that as most of these loans are given to first-time borrowers, it might be difficult to balance delinquency control and disbursements in kilter with state-set targets.

  • About 70 per cent of the loans disbursed to first-time borrowers are sanctioned by public sector banks and many of these loans are refinanced under the Mudra scheme.

PCB urges ICC to take strong action against India over 'Army caps'

Finland PM Juha Sipila resigned over failure of health care reform

  • Finland’s Prime Minister Juha Sipila, along with his cabinet, resigned after failing to push through parliament plans to overhaul health services and social care in the face of an aging population, just a few weeks before the general elections.

  • He tendered his resignation to President Sauli Niinisto, who asked him to stay on as caretaker until the elections in April 2019.

  • Statistics Finland has estimated that more than a quarter of the population will be aged over 65 by 2030, making a more cost-effective welfare state a top priority.

  • The Prime Minister’s proposed solutions included creating regional authorities for health and welfare services, rather than the local municipalities that currently manage the system, and offering including private companies in the healthcare system to a greater extent to offer “freedom of choice”.

  • The plan involved a drastic reorganization of the way health care is administered at a local level as well as a greater role for the private sector.
