• The Punjab and Haryana High Court has accorded the status of “legal person or entity” to animals in Haryana, granting them the “corresponding rights, duties and liabilities of a living person”.


• The verdict comes nearly a year after Uttarakhand High Court passed a similar order “to protect and promote greater welfare of animals”.


• Both the orders were written by Justice Rajiv Sharma, who was transferred from Uttarakhand to the Punjab and Haryana High Court at Chandigarh last year.

• Even after slowdown in industrial activity, the Government managed to collect more than ₹1 lakh crore plus in May.


• This is third consecutive month of ₹1 lakh crore plus mobilization. However, collection in May was lower than all-time high of April.


• According to Finance Ministry data, total gross GST revenue collected in the month of May, 2019 is ₹ 1,00,289 crore of which CGST (Central Goods & Services Tax) is ₹ 17,811 crore, SGST (State Goods & Services Tax) is ₹ 24,462 crore, IGST (Integrated Goods & Services Tax) is ₹ 49,891 crore (including ₹ 24,875 crore collected on imports).

• Chhattisgarh government appointed Satish Chandra Verma as the new advocate general, his predecessor Kanak Tiwari alleged that he had been unceremoniously removed from the post because of his opposition to the functioning of the government, “which was not working as per law and constitution”.


• Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said that Tiwari had resigned from the post and his resignation had been accepted.
