  • According to sources, Azhar was moved from Rawalpindi to Kothgani near Bhawalpur on either February 17 or February 18 - days after his Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the Pulwama attack on a CRPF convoy. 40 troopers were martyred in the dastardly attack, prompting India to come down heavily on Pakistan.
No relief for Nawaz Sharif as Pakistan court rejects bail plea in corruption case

  • A court in Pakistan rejected the bail application of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif, refusing to grant him relief on medical grounds in a corruption case.

  • The reasons will be given in a detailed judgment to be issued later. Sharif, 69, has been serving a seven-year jail term in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case.

  • The Islamabad High Court's two-member bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani announced that the bail application was "dismissed".

Supreme Court to hear Ram-Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case on [latex]26^{th}[/latex] February

  • The Supreme Court will hear the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title dispute case on [latex]26^{th}[/latex] February.

  • A five-judge constitution bench comprising of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer will take up the case.

  • The SC bench will hear the appeals against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment in which the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya was divided equally among three parties – the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla by the court. The Allahabad HC had delivered the verdict after hearing four civil suits.
Ex-IPS officer blames West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for suicide

  • A Retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the West Bengal cadre, who committed suicide on February [latex]19^{th}[/latex], held Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "directly responsible" for abetting his suicide. The TMC, however, rejected the charge claiming that it has "no basis."

  • The 1986 batch IPS officer, identified as Gaurav Dutt, was found dead with a slit wrist at his home. Dutt had taken voluntary retirement last year. In his suicide note, the IPS officer said that West Bengal Chief Minister was "directly responsible" for forcing him to commit suicide by "victimising" him for a decade.
25 e-vehicle charging stations set up in Delhi; to open in March

  • In a big push to the Centre’s ambitious plan to switch to electric vehicles by 2030, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has initiated a process to establish electric vehicle charging stations for the public.

  • The civic agency has already installed 25 charging stations at multiple locations across Lutyens’ Delhi, including CP, Gole Market, Jor Bagh, Sarojini Nagar Market and Yashwant Place.

  • These will be open to the public by the first week of March. “This is the first time in the country that a civic agency has established e-vehicle charging stations for the public.

RBI extends KYC deadline for e-wallets by 6 months

  • In a major relief to consumers as well as mobile wallet companies, the RBI has extended the deadline for full know-your-customer (KYC) compliance by six months. The deadline was supposed to end on [latex]28^{th}[/latex] February .

  • As much as 70-80% of the user base of most e-wallet companies was yet to comply with full KYC norms.

  • Emerging tech talent is currently at a premium due to short supply. We have given retention bonuses this year to this talent pool and would continue to do so till the pool is abundant,” Saurabh Govil, chief human resources officer at Wipro, told ET.
