  • Tulsi Gabbard, the first-ever Hindu elected to the US Congress, officially launched her 2020 presidential campaign.

  • The 37-year-old launched her candidacy in the US state of Hawaii, where she has served as a congress woman since 2013. A Samoan-American, Gabbard is an Iraq war veteran and a member of the Democratic Party.

Chief Minister announced to ban the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug Aceclofenac for veterinary use to ensure vulture conservation.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launches second phase of Pasupu-Kumkuma scheme, welfare pension

  • The second phase of Pasupu-Kumkuma (Turmeric-Kumkum) scheme and welfare pensions was launched by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Chandrababu Naidu.

  • Around 94 Lakh DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) women will be given Rs 10000 in three installments under the Pasupu-Kumkuma scheme.

  • Under the scheme, Rs 2500 will be given on 1st February 2019, Rs 3500 will be given 8th March and Rs 4000 will be given on 5th April.

  • 54 Lakh pensions will be given to different categories of people each month and it will cost a monthly expenditure of Rs 1100 crore. The Annual Expenditure will be around Rs 13200 crore.
Sikkim signs MoU with Microsoft for digital learning

  • Microsoft India entered into a pact with the Sikkim state government to improve the education system in the state by boosting digital literacy and the knowledge of new-age technology among students and teachers in government schools.

  • The MoU was signed between the Human Resource Development Department and the technology major.

Two RRBs to be merged to form Tamil Nadu Grama Bank

  • Public sector Indian Bank said two regional rural banks (RRBs), Pallavan Grama Bank and Pandyan Grama Bank will be merged to form Tamil Nadu Grama Bank as per the Finance Ministry. The integration will be effective from April 1.

  • The new Tamil Nadu Grama Bank will be under the sponsorship of Indian Bank with head office in Salem,Tamil Nadu. Originally the Pallavan Grama Bank was sponsored by Indian Bank and Pandyan Grama Bank by Indian Overseas Bank.

  • Ambati Rayudu and Vijay Shankar who scored 45 runs off 64 balls, forged a 98-run partnership after the fall of four wickets at the score of 18.
