  • Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for petroleum and natural gas, inaugurated the 2019 Asia LPG summit in New Delhi.

  • This two-day event will focus on ‘LPG – Energy for Life.’

Government launched Pre-Departure Orientation Training programme for Migrant workers

  • A Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOT) programme has been launched by Government to orient potential migrant workers with regard to culture, language, do’s and don’ts in the emigration process and safety measures.

  • This PDOT has been administered by the Ministry of External Affairs in alliance with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

  • PDOT has been conducted under Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PKVY) and The National Skill Development Corporation is the devising agency for this programme.
AYUSH Minister inaugurated Conference of State AYUSH Ministers in New Delhi

  • The Ministry of AYUSH organised Second Conference of State AYUSH and Health Ministers conference in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by the Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) and Health & Family Welfare Shripad Yesso Naik.

  • The programme is inaugurated to discuss about National AYUSH Mission (NAM), Integration of AYUSH services in Ayushman Bharat, Medicinal Plants, Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy educational Institutes, Quality Control of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy drugs, Drugs Central Sector Schemes and special programmes and projects.

  • During this meeting, Shripad Yesso Naik stressed about India to develop bilateral cooperation with USA in areas of Research, Capacity Training and scientific endeavors in the meeting to be held next month in New Delhi.
‘Darwaza Band – Part 2’ campaign was launched by Swatch Bharat Mission Grameen

  • The “Darwaza Band- Part 2” campaign was launched by Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen focuses on sustaining the open defecation free status of villages across the country.
  • The campaign launched by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in Mumbai in the presence of actor Amitabh Bachchan.
  • Shri Babanrao Lonikar Maharashtra’s Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation and Shri Parameswaran Iyer Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation were also present.

  • The World Bank also supported the Darwaza Band -Part 2. Earlier Darwaza Band campaign was launched in 2017.

  • Three “Darwaza Band Part 2” films were launched by Amitabh Bachchan and dedicated re-adaptation of a poem of his father late Harivansh Rai Bachchan to the Swachh Bharat Mission “Swachh Tann, Swachh Mann, Swachh Bharat,Mera Parichay”.

  • Over 50 crore people stopped defecating in the open since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission and with over 5.5 lakh villages have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) and the national sanitation coverage is now 98% compared to 39% in 2014.
Maharashtra Government Setup panel to review welfare schemes for tribals

  • The Maharashtra government has set up a committee to review various schemes implemented for the welfare of tribals in the state.

  • The 17-member committee, headed by former MLA and Shramjeevi Sanghatna president Vivek Pandit, will undertake study of various works done for providing employment opportunities, minimum wages and proper livelihood to tribals.

  • And it will suggest measures to ensure that children in tribal regions were not deprived of education.
Schemes for Socio-economic development instigated by National Minorities Dev. and Finance Corp

  • The National Minority Development and Finance Corporation executed diverse schemes for the socio-economic development of the ‘backward sections’ amidst the apprised minorities.

  • Schemes are being executed by State Channelizing Agencies represented by state government.

  • Credit schemes like Term loan, Micro Finance, Educational loan, etc. and Promotional schemes like Vocational training, Marketing assistance, etc. have been implemented.

  • Beneficiaries are classified under 2 categories Those who have annual family income of Rs.98,000 for rural areas and Rs.1.20 lakh for urban areas and Those who have higher family income eligibility criteria of upto 6 lakhs.

IBA issued advisory to waive off various charges for Kisan Credit Card

  • Indian Banking Association (IBA) has marked the advisory recommendations from banks to exempt farmers from processing, documentation, inspection, ledger folio charge and various service charges for Kisan Credit Card loans upto Rs. 3 Lakhs.

  • These guidelines came to highlight as nominal amount of charges were collected by some schedule commercial banks for agriculture loans.

  • Government will launch campaign through various financial institutions for financial inclusion with spontaneous effect to farmers.

  • Kisan Credit Card aims to provide adequate and timely monetary help from banks to farmers to meet short term credit requirement for agriculture purposes.
RBI is not llikely to transfer the with held contigency reserves to Centre

Key Highlights:

  • The government has requested the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for providing an interim surplus for the financial year 2018-19 on the analogy of previous financial year and transfer of the amount withheld from the surplus of 2016-17 and 2017-18.

  • The RBI is unlikely to give in to the government’s demand for transferring funds that were set aside for contingency reserves in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

  • A total of Rs.27,330 crore was set aside by the RBI for the contingency fund. Rs.13,140 crore in FY17 and Rs.14,190 crore in FY18.
India’s export growth may slow to 7.3% in FY19
Key Highlights:

  • As per a statement released by Government, India’s export may slow down to 7.3% in 2018-19 from earlier growth rate of 9.8% of 2017-18 due to poor growth of traditional exports like gems and jewellary, marine, farm and engineering.

  • On 5th February 2019, a meeting was held to discuss the problems being faces exporters and to examine the ways by which India’s growth rate may reach up to $ 325 billion by March 2019. The Liquidity Crunch and Global factors are also responsible for the slow export growth.

  • India’s overall export were $498.61 billion in 2017-18 but in 2018-19, it is expected to come down to $325 billion.

  • The overall growth of outward shipment from the country in December 2018 was $27.6 billion.
