71st Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia inaugurated in New Delhi by Health Minister JP Nadda
Key Highlights:
  • Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J P Nadda inaugurated the ‘71st Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia,’ in New Delhi.

  • Implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis and target to remove of by 2025(ahead of 2030 set by WHO).

  • Universal screening for prevention and management of five common NCDs including hypertension, diabetes and three common Cancers of oral cavity, breast and cervix.

  • Launch of AMRIT Deendayal: ‘Affordable Medicines & Reliable Implants for Treatment’– centres to provide medicines for cancer and cardiovascular disease and cardiac implants at reduced prices.

Draft rules for e-pharmacies to regulate online sale of medicines: Health Ministry
Key Highlights:
  • The Health ministry notified that the online e-pharmacies will have to adhere to the set of new draft rules regarding selling of drugs through the internet.

  • A consultative committee on e-pharmacies was formed in 2015 which submitted its report to the DCGI in 2016.

6-days long 47th Bi-annual talks held in New Delhi by India and Bangladesh border forces.

Key Highlights:
  • Volunteers read out one chapter of any book from either the school library or the Hindi textbook during the programme.

  • More than 80 thousand out of over 2 lakh registered volunteers gave books and useful gifts to the students.

  • All volunteers submitted their video entries(less than 90 seconds) and the best one would be given certificate and the video would be featured in MP MYGOV platform.
Jharkhand govt renames town and railway station after Bansidhari temple of Lord Krishna
Key Highlights:
  • The Union Ministry of Home Affairs approved the Jharkhand government’s proposal to rename a railway station and a town in Garhwa district after Lord Krishna.

  • The town Nagar Untari and the railway station would be renamed as Banshidhar Nagar, after Banshidhar Temple.

  • It would be remodeled on the lines of Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh to make it a part of the Lord Krishna religious circuit.

  • The government is looking at proposals for a tie-up with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

  • SBI inaugurated its e-facilitation and e-corner facility for Indian army veterans at the Army Complex near Fort William inKolkata.

  • Ability to fast-track pension issues by “on the spot” resolution of pension-related grievance of veterans/ veer naris/ next of kin.

ITI Limited partnered with startups to boost manufacturing of ICT, IoT and Defence Technology: Bengaluru
Key Highlights:
  • On the sidelines of the first edition of ITI’s two-day ‘ICT & IoT Startup Tech Expo’ in Bengaluru, ITI Limited signed agreements equipment manufacturers and startups.

  • It partnered with Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC), New Delhi to establish telecom testing labs at its Bengaluru plant.

  • The foundation stone of telecom testing labs– comprising EMI/EMC lab, Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) lab, Safety lab and Security lab – was laid by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Communications and Minister of State for Railways, Shri Manoj Sinha.

Internet Society & ISPAI sign pact to secure Internet infrastructure in India
Key Highlights:
  • The Internet Society (ISOC) partnered with Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) to promote and secure internet infrastructure.

  • They signed an agreement to promote ‘Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security (MANRS) which will improve security infrastructure.

  • As a part of this, ISOC has conducted a workshop during the inaugural India Network Operators Group meeting ( INNOG).

Alastair Cook announces international retirement
Key Highlights:
  • England’s highest Test run-scorer Alastair Cook announced his retirement from International cricket.

  • He has scored 12,254 runs and made 32 centuries in 160 Tests – all England records.

  • He is sixth on the all-time list of Test run-scorers and has made a record 11,627 runs as an opener.

  • He became the first Englishman to reach 10,000 Test runs in 2016.

  • He captained the England team from 2012 and led England to their first victory in India for 27 years.

Former footballer Arthur Pereira dead
Key Highlights:
  • former Maharashtra football player Arthur Pereira passed away after fighting cancer, at a hospital in Borivili, Mumbai.

  • Arthur Pereira was 70 years old. He represented India in the Russia tour in 1971.
  • He represented Maharashtra in the national championships for the Santosh Trophy from 1971 to 1976.

  • He had played for various clubs in Mumbai like the Orkay Mills club. He also served as Physical Education teacher at St Joseph’s School in Malad, Mumbai.
