What is DRDO?
  • DRDO stands for the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

  • DRDO falls under the Ministry of Defence of the Government of India

  • DRDO is the department that handles the R&D (Research & Development) of the Indian Defence Ministry.

  • DRDO is headquartered in New Delhi.

  • It has 52 laboratories, engaged in developing defense technologies.

About DRDO
  • DRDO was founded in 1958 and falls under the control of the Ministry of India; Minister responsible is Rajnath Singh, the Minister of Defense in the Union Cabinet.

  • The headquarters are in New Delhi and is India’s largest, most diverse research organisation.

Functions
  • DRDO has 52 laboratories which are involved in developing defense technologies across various fields: aeronautics, armaments, electronics, land combat engineering, missiles, naval systems, etc.

  • Over 5000 scientists and 25,000 non-scientist personnel are engaged within the Defense Research and Development Service.

  • DRDO has announced recruitment for its MTS. i.e Multi Tasking Staff vacancies

  • In the year 2019-20, DRDO is planning to fill 1817 vacancies for the post of MTS (Multi Tasking Staff).
    • These posts are of non-officer clerical cadre.
  • DRDO MTS is a non-gazetted post that recruits candidates in Group-C.

  • An aspirant passing the DRDO MTS exam needs to perform basic official work and other duties that include working in different sections of the institute.

shape Job Role

  • Official work of a candidate who has cleared the DRDO MTS exams includes creating a soft copy of the documents by scanning, photocopying or typing the information available in them.

  • The official work also includes filing of official documents and verification of stock.

  • The candidates are held responsible for the physical maintenance of all the records of the department.

  • They need to keep various sections/units and premises of DRDO clean.

  • The candidates need to assist in various sections such as science labs, departmental stores, libraries, canteens, pathology (including physiotherapy and nursing), etc.

  • They are also expected to assist in cleaning lab equipment, glass items, etc.

  • Some candidates who have a driving license can be assigned the task of driving.

  • Employees selected for the positions of DRDO MTS will have to assist while testing any material or they might have to assist on the shop floor as well.

  • They need to support the loading and unloading of heavy equipment and jobs on the bed of the machines.

  • They need to handle chemicals, equipment, and tools or they can be asked to manage the entire store.

  • A candidate can be asked to operate a crane if he is capable to do so.

  • Sending official faxes and emails is an integral part of their duties.

  • Apart from these duties, any other non-official work can be assigned to them. Also, the candidates will have to adhere to any other duty assigned by the superior authority of the department.

  • Opening and closing various rooms of the department in the stipulated time.

  • Carrying documents from one section to another physically, from one building to another inside the premises

  • Duties such as maintaining labs, parks, plants, lawns, trees, etc.

  • Any other work related to the ITI qualification of a candidate (if or whenever there is a requirement).

  • Assisting in dairy, dispatch work, and similar duties in other sections.

    • Growth depends on experience and work ethics.

    • Promotions occur in accordance to years of experience and interdepartmental exams passed.

    • One can go on to become Lower Division Clerks, and then Higher Division Clerks. The posts come with better benefits and perks.

    • Therefore, candidates who complete their graduation or post-graduation during their service can think of applying for higher positions after gaining sufficient experience in their current position.
    • The promotions largely depend on the positions in which the candidates get selected after clearing the DRDO MTS exams.

    • It also depends on their experience and performance which is measured through the annual reports prepared by their seniors. These reports are kept confidential.

    • The candidates should also improve their skills and understanding of their job roles.

    • Apart from that, they must try to improve their educational qualification and wait for the notifications of internal exams.
    Candidates who are recruited through DRDO MTS can expect three promotions in their overall career. The promotions are as follows:
    • A candidate can be promoted to the post of lower division clerk after completing 5 to 8 years of service.

    • If the candidates complete 12th or graduation during the service then they can be promoted to the post of LDC (Lower Division Clerk) within 2 to 5 years. However, for that, they also need to clear the departmental exams.

    • The candidates need to clear more exams and gain more experience to become a higher division clerk.

    1. Candidates get posted in remote cities:

    2. Posting of stations, as per candidates’ preference is final and irreversible. A subsequent request for a change in preference is not entertained.
    3. Candidates are required to serve at posting for 5 years.
    4. Recruited candidates are always on the toes, responsible for a variety of jobs that require agility and energy.
