Specialist Officers (SO) is the banking personnel that take care of all back ground activities in bank in their respective specialized areas. These officers are appointed by banks for very specific roles as per their expertise and educational & professional background. They plan and prepare the advertising budget and negotiate with ad agencies and procure additional services from them. Specialist Officers Role is one of the challenging role in baking sector of the country. Responsibilities of a Specialist Officer is as listed below:
1. Oversee the technological perspectives of Banking operations.
2. Promote Banking Services and Products among users.
3. They move around improving market presence and profits of the bank through appropriate marketing campaigns and promotions activities.
4. Handle the training and induction of new employees.
5. To work on the different bank policies, in consultation with senior managers.
6. Suggest bank for profitable operations based on RBI Policy of the government.
The recruitment of law officer in Public Sector Banks is done through the IBPS Specialist Officer Examination. The roles and responsibilities of a Law Officer (Scale I) of a banking organisation mainly revolve around dealing with the legal affairs of different departments of the bank.
The law officers are an important part in the operations of the bank because whatever is done by the bank starting from the branch level should be compliant with concerned laws of the field. The law officers are tasked with a number of responsibilities:
    Ensuring Compliance with RBI Norms: As a scheduled bank, every bank is required to abide by the rules and regulations of the regulator i.e. RBI and it is the law officer who is in charge of the same.
    Framing Legal Documents: For various purposes of the bank, legal documents are required in order to make the processes followed by banks. Law Officers need to take care of that aspect also.
    Legal Representative of the Bank: Banks have to file suits and cases against borrowers, fraudsters etc. The Law Officer has to represent the bank in the court of law in these kinds of cases.
    Legal Counsel of the Bank: Whenever any legal opinion is required regarding any procedural lapse or operational flaw in the banks, the management turns to law officers to provide the same.
    Making Laws Simpler for Everyday Use: It is not possible to have a law officer at every branch of the bank. Therefore, it is necessary that day to day operations are taken care of properly at the branch level. Hence, it is the responsibility of the law officers to explain legal aspects in simple layman terms for the convenience of everybody.
    ✶ Dealing with references on legal issues.
    ✶ Preparing initial drafts of legislation administered/to be administered by the Institute.
    ✶ Preparation of drafts of pleadings and comprehensive instructions/briefs to counsel in connection with litigation involving the Institute.
    ✶ Replying to candidate’s queries on legal and administrative matters.
    ✶ Handling all Court cases from filing of the case to the final Court order and monitoring the court cases/legal matters on day to day basis with the concerned advocates.
    ✶ Preparing statistical data on legal matters and periodical submission to concerned authorities.
    ✶ Drafting of Affidavits, Counter affidavit, drafting of para-wise comments/reply.
    ✶ Time to time consultation on various legal issues.
    ✶ Giving updates on various matters related to the employment criteria, reservations etc. in public sector organisations.
    ✶ Responding to legal matters received from the candidates / candidate’s advocates, show cause notices from the statutory authorities etc.
    ✶ Vetting of advertisements, drafting contracts, Vetting of contracts, MOUs etc., amending contracts, MOUs etc.
    ✶ Employee/labour matters.
    ✶ Vetting of Show cause notices for recovery of payment/bill etc.
    ✶ Any other legal/ industrial relation matter assigned by the Institute.
A Rajbhasha Adhikari or an Official Language Officer in a bank is the official who is responsible for using the official language of the country i.e. Hindi as much as possible in banking operations like in circulars, notices etc. The officer is supposed to well verse in Hindi and Sanskrit so that the use of the language is not neglected in the day to day operations in banks.
The main responsibilities of the officer include the following:
    Translation of Documents into Hindi: The main responsibility of a Rajbhasha Adhikari is to translate the official documents of the banks into Hindi. The circulars and notices circulated by the bank among its branches are to be sent in both English and Hindi and it is the Rajbhasha Adhikari who ensures that this is complied properly.
    Arranging Training Programmes: The another responsibility of these officers are to conduct regular workshop for the officials of the bank so that they are also used to the official language of the country and use it as much as possible in the daily operations of the bank.
    Promotion of Official Language: The specialist officers in the cadre of Rajbhasha Adhikari are recruited for the purpose of complying with the government directive that the official language of the Union should be used in official communications along with English. Rajbhasha Adhikari officers are there to ensure this.
Information Technology Officer “IT Officer” is the class of specialist officer grade inside the hood of banks institutions where the officer’s job profile meant for serving technical problems about software and hardware up-dos, transpiring within the organization.
At the initial level, the IT Officers are benefited with the training session in which they are taught to use the software, hardware and latest technologies for the enhancement of secured and safe banking.
Below are some roles and responsibilities which every IT Officer has to follow while working with the Government Banking Bodies.
    Technical Support Technical-Support: IBPS Specialist IT Officers have expertized in providing the prompt technical support to the organization.
    Software-and-Hardware-Handling: The IT officer is responsible for maintaining the computer systems and networks of the Bank.
    Right from installing and configuring the hardware, OS and other Applications and Software’s on the devices, to monitoring and maintaining and keeping those updated with particular time limits, everything lies under the roles and responsibilities of a Specialist Officer.
    Customer Support Customer-Support: The IBPS Specialist Officer also takes care whether the customer’s services are working properly or not.
    In order to solve the technical issues, an IT Officer talk with Staff/Clients through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone and take the appropriate action on the basis of their feedbacks.
    Bank Network Security Management: The IT Officer of any bank is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the Bank’s Network Security Programs. He has to ensure that all information systems are functional and secured in accordance with the banking network security laws.
    With the huge rise of bank account hack attacks as cybercrimes, the banks are focusing more on the hiring of talented IT Officers who can manage their job tasks very efficiently.
    System Management System-Management: The IBPS IT Officer has to maintain the servers, databases of banks and other networking systems.

Along with these, IT Specialist Officer also manages various sub-systems like:
    1. Data Center: This is one of the most important departments of the bank, where all the data and core banking application lies. The work of the IT Officer is maintenance and support. Shift duty systems are followed for this section in order to ensure that it is manned 24 hours a day.
    2. ATM Section: This section looks after all ATM related activity. Shift duty systems are followed in this section too.
    3. Project Office: In this section, all IT support for branch banking is handled. Shift duty systems are followed in this section too.
    4. Security Section: Here, the IT Office keeps track of all the harmful activities that may damage the Network Security. And if they find any threat, they take immediate actions against it.
    5. MIS and Application Section: MIS Section is designed mainly to execute the activities under software development and related activities. IT Officers in this department are engaged in developing new software or modifying the Bank’s existing software.
The Agricultural Officer is on the scale 1 post for the specialist officers. It mainly revolves around spreading and promoting the financial products and services of banks among the farmers and landlords in the rural area for agricultural purpose.
    ✦ The Agriculture Field Officers are mainly responsible for the promotion of rural financing.
    ✦ The role of an agriculture is to disburse the loans to farmers as well as others involved in the primary sector of the economy.
    ✦ Apart from disbursal, the Agriculture Field officers are also responsible for the review of the agricultural loans.
    ✦ As per the guidelines given by banks, agriculture officers are given the responsibility to promote the bank in rural areas so that the agricultural portfolio of the bank is promoted.
    ✦ The agriculture officer makes sure that work progress is satisfactory, ensures that the farm is profitable & meets the financial targets.
    ✦ Agricultural loans are classified under the priority sector, and hence managing them efficiently is crucial. An Agriculture Field Officer apart from reporting to the senior officials, is also responsible for coordinating with other organisations working in the rural economy such as NABARD and RRBs.

Below listed are the responsibilities of an Agriculture Field Officer:
    ✦ An AFO promotes bank’s loan products in rural areas, particularly among farmers.
    ✦ An AFO meets and maintains a good relationship with farmers and thereby generate Leads.
    ✦ They conduct pre-loan sanction inspection.
    ✦ They follow up in case of recovery of loans.
    ✦ They also ensure the proper recovery of loan and getting the acknowledgement of debt.
HR/ Personnel Officer plays a vital role in the organisation. As in any other organization, HR Specialist Officers in public sector banks are expected to undertake activities such as recruiting staff according to the requirement of company or institution, proper staffing and manage personnel selection. They are also expected to overview HR policies from time to time and address staff grievances. HR manager/officer develops, advises on and implements policies relating to the effective use of personnel within the organisation.
    ✦ HR Officer is responsible for conducting training and development programmes for the employees.
    ✦ HR Officer also designs various employee welfare schemes.
    ✦ He/ She also conducts recruitment process for the selection of personnel/employees for various positions in the bank.
    ✦ HR Officer is also responsible for evaluating the performance of employees on a regular basis.
    ✦ He/ She also maintains the database records of employees in the organisation.
    ✦ HR Officer is also responsible for preparing and updating the compensation and promotion policies.

Below listed are the responsibilities of HR/ Personnel Officers:
    Conduction of Promotional Exercise: Now a days promotions are become the wallet carrier for every employee in any Organisation and also In every bank.     Posting and Transfer of employees: This criteria is the usual duty of the HR Human Resources departments as the workforce is to be equal at every branch.
    Arrangement of Training Programme: It is the HR departments responsibility to conduct training sessions for the banks staff when ever it is necessary about the current trends.
    Disbursal of Retirement benefits: The retirement pension of the respective employee is to be handed over to the employee without any difficulty, this process will undertaken by the HR department.
    Desingn Perks and benefits: HR departments need to make an order to give the perquisite and the other all benefits to the respective employees. Its necessary to keep the banking staff happy with benefits.
    Supervising the Staff: HR department need to supervise the quality of work performed by the Bank staff.
IBPS Marketing officer plays an important role in bank. He/She is responsible for increasing the sales to make it more profitable. A marketing officer is involved in all types of marketing, social media & networking events. The Job responsibilities may vary as per the scale of the post & size of the organisation. Marketing Officer may have different fields opportunities as well.
    ✦ She/he takes care of all the marketing and promotional activities in a given state/region or nationwide.
    ✦ Marketing team is responsible for conceptualizing and design of advertisements, taking the bank’s message to masses.
    ✦ Marketing Officer co-ordinates with advertisement agencies in order to draft various forms of communication.
    ✦ She/he develops various marketing strategies and plans to boost up sales and profits.
    ✦ Marketing Officer is also required to search for new services and Products of the Banks.

Marketing Officers do exactly what the marketing team does in any Multinational Company. Below listed are the responsibilities of Marketing officers:
    Managing Marketing Campaigns: Marketing Officers will be the part of a team which will be in charge of selling a product in the market by comparing it with the products of the competitors. The team leader will be responsible for devising strategies for the same and executing them as well.
    Creating Awareness of Products Among Staff: The staff of the bank can play the most effective role in marketing the products. Hence, the marketing officers have to organise workshops, training programs to aware the staff of various new products of the bank.
    Managing Social Media: This is an age of social media and every bank is vying for the larger share in the same. It is the duty of the marketing officers to ensure that the concerned bank is advertised properly and effectively in the social media platforms.
    Promoting Products of Bank: This is the sole responsibility of the marketing officer because he or she has to ensure that the special feature of a product is properly apprised of in front of the customers so that the products are sold as much as possible.
    Preparing Materials for Marketing of Products: Marketing Department of a bank is also responsible for designing attractive material for marketing products so that the product features are highlighted in a reader-friendly way.
    Coordinating with Ad Agency: The marketing department needs to decide the media where the ads will be displayed and then coordinate with them accordingly so that the products are properly advertised.
    The job of a marketing officer in a bank is same as that in a private sector company and there are targets for the officers as well. However, people with a flair for marketing will find it challenging. The postings are always in metro or urban area and the promotional aspects are similar to that of other specialist cadre officers i.e. not as good as PO.
