By solving this questions candidates can improve and maintain, speed, and accuracy in the exams. Ratios and Proportions Quiz 13 questions are very useful for different exams such as IBPS PO, Clerk, SSC CGL, SBI PO, NIACL Assistant, NICL AO, IBPS SO, RRB, Railways, Civil Services etc.

shape Q1

What is the fourth proportional to 189, 273 and 153?
    A. 117 B. 299 C. 221 D. 187

According to the question,
189 : 273 :: 153 : x
[latex]\frac {189}{273}=\frac {153}{x} [/latex]
x = 221

shape Q2

Three numbers are in the ratio 1 : 2 : 3 and the sum of their cubes is 4500. The smallest numbers is
    A. 4 B. 5 C. 6 D. 10

Let the numbers be x, 2x and 3x, then sum of their cubes = 36
[latex] \Rightarrow [/latex] As given in the question, 36[latex]{x}^{3}[/latex] = 4500
[latex] \Rightarrow [/latex] x = 5

shape Q3

A milkman wants to sell his milk at cost price but still wants to make a profit of 20% by mixing water. In what ratio should he mix milk and water to achieve this profit.
    A. 5:1 B. 4:1 C. 6:1 D. 1:6

Let there be 10 Kg of milk and its cost price be 1 Rs/kg
Total CP = 10 Rs
Profit required = 2 Rs
Total SP = 10 + 2 = 12 Rs
Total quantity sold as 1Rs/kg = [latex]\frac {12}{1}[/latex] = 12 Kg
Out of which 10 kg was milk and remaining 2 kg must be water.
Ratio of milk: water = 10:2 = 5:1

shape Q4

What is the third proportional to 10 and 25?
    A. 125 B. 150 C. 62.5 D. 225

Let the third proportional be b
Then [latex]\frac {10}{25} = \frac {25}{b}[/latex]
b = [latex]\frac {625}{10} = 62.5[/latex]

shape Q5

The bus fare between two cities is increased in the ratio 17:20. Find the increase in the fare, if the original fare is Rs. 425
    A. Rs 500 B. Rs 100 C. Rs 200 D. Rs 75

Ratio of increase fair = [latex]\frac {17}{20}[/latex]
Here 17 represents the previous fair and 20 represents the new fair
17 = 425 then 20 = [latex]\frac {425}{17} \times 20 = 500[/latex]
Hence the increased in fair = 500 - 425 = Rs. 75
