SAT Test Day
  • Scholastic or SAT is conducted seven times annually in the United States of America and six times in other parts of the world.

  • Candidates are required to register for the test in advance and choose a test date and test center at the time of registration itself.

  • Since it commenced in 1926, SAT has been widely used in the United States to provide admissions in colleges, universities, and institutes through a fair process.

  • Therefore, candidates who aspire to get admissions in the colleges in the United States prepare well for the SAT exam.

  • The preparation for the SAT exam includes both physical and mental preparation. Besides, using the best tips and tricks available in the books and online resources, candidates also need to prepare for the test day in many ways.

SAT Test Day - Documents to Carry
The day of the SAT Exam arrives after months of preparation and planning. However, to get everything in place, it is advised that candidates but carry the following things to the examination center.
  • Admission Ticket: SAT, the non-profit organization that conducts the exam advises candidates to bring a print out of the admission ticket to the examination center.

  • Photo ID: Candidates are required to bring an acceptable photo ID to the examination center. The table below shall show what the acceptable and unacceptable forms of photo ID are.

    Acceptable forms of photo ID include:
    • Photo IDs issued by the government and are unexpired, like driving license, passport, national ID, military ID, and so on.

    • Current school ID cards, and

    • In case a candidate does not have any of these forms of photo ID, a Student's ID form has to be prepared by the school the candidate is currently attending, or if the candidate is home-schooled, the Student ID form must be made by a notary.
    The expired or the damaged photo ID's that do not match with the College Board photo is referred to as unacceptable forms of photo IDs. Some of them are:
    • Debit cards or credit cards,

    • Employee ID cards

    • Birth Certificates

    • ChildFind ID cards

    • Social Security Cards

    • And other forms of temporary ID cards.

  • Stationary: SAT does not provide any form of stationary at the examination center. Besides, pens, liquid paper, highlighter, and any other writing utensils are prohibited in the examination center.
    Therefore, candidates are advised to carry their pair of pencils, sharpener, and an eraser. Also, candidates must make sure that the stationery is in the working condition.

  • Calculator: Electronic devices like watches with alarms, laptops, tablets, cell phones, and unacceptable calculators are prohibited in the examination center.
    A basic calculator is although allowed in the examination center, but is not recommended. Graphing and scientific calculators are acceptable forms of calculators.

  • Candidates will not have any trouble in entering the examination center if they have all of these four necessary items, i.e., the admission ticket, acceptable form of photo ID, stationary, and acceptable calculators.

Here are some of the essential instructions that candidates are expected to follow on the day of the SAT exam:
  • Preparing for the exam ahead of time: SAT is a competitive exam. Therefore, despite studying hard candidates may find it difficult to conquer the exam.
    • This is because of tapering. Missing a few study sessions just a day before the exam can help candidates become more mentally alert and able to tackle the subjects in a better way.

  • Finding the test center a week before the exam: Mostly, the test center is the same as the high school of the candidate. However, locating the test center a few hours before the test can be an added stress for the candidates.
    • It is essential for candidates to find the test center ahead of time.

    • Candidates must also check for parking space and mode of reaching the test center at least a week before the exam.

  • Arriving on time: It is advised that candidates must reach their designated testing centers at least an hour before the exam begins.
    • Candidates who choose to reach earlier than this may have to wait for the test proctor to finish the setting up of the test. However, it is better to reach before than reaching late.

  • Carry the essentials: Candidates are advised to carry all the above-mentioned documents and essentials to the testing center.

  • Perform within the time limit: One of the biggest challenges in any competitive exam is to perform within the strict time limits.
    • Candidates are expected to learn tips and tricks that shall help them ace the SAT exam while preparing for the test.

  • Besides the above-mentioned essentials, it is advised that candidates must carry some water and snacks that they can relish in the break.

  • A regular watch without an alarm is also needed in the examination center. This shall help the candidates to keep track of time.

  • The test center coordinator has to responsibly operate the test center such that all candidates have a fair and standardized experience. Candidates can report any test day issues or concerns later on the website.

  • Besides, confidence is the key to a good score. The performance of the candidates is a reflection of their expectations. Therefore, the candidate must be confident about their learnings before appearing for the exam.
