What is the Exact Job Role?
The SBI PO job profile is a bit different from the job profiles of other PO’s.
The difference is due to the fact that State Bank of India
- is a Universal bank
- Operates in various dimensions of banking
- Banking and administrative tasks.
- SBI Probationary Officers are trained for ‘2 years’, which is known as probation period.
Training
They undergo training to understand the basics of banking including various disciplines like
- Finance
- Accounting
- Marketing
- Billing
- Investment
Joining
The selected candidates will be exposed to basic banking knowledge, before joining, through an online course and will have to mandatorily complete this course before joining. The selected candidates, at the time of joining, will have to execute a Bond for a value of Rs 2.00 lac (Rs Two lac only) to serve the Bank for a minimum period of three years. The Bond will be invoked by the Bank if the candidate resigns from the service of the Bank before the expiry of three years from the date of joining.
Probation
On joining, the selected candidates will be designated as “Probationary Officers” and will be on probation for two years. They will be subjected to continuous assessment during the probation period. Those candidates who qualify in the assessment as per standards determined by the Bank from time to time, will be confirmed in the Service of the Bank in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I). Further, those officers who achieve higher standards/ scores stipulated by the Bank, may be considered for direct placement in the next higher grade, Middle Management Grade Scale-II (MMGS-II) immediately after confirmation.
During the probation period, you can be asked to perform any kind of bank related activity. It can be clerical or a managerial type of role. The reason for such type of diversity in work is to get you acquaintable to various working procedures of the bank.
One more responsibility is to work as Public Relations Officer. The PO needs to handle customer complaints and addresses various customer related issues. Matters such as
- Discrepancies in Accounts
- Rectification of Undue Charges
- Looking into the complaints regarding services provided by the Bank
- Supervising Clerical Work
- Taking Decisions for the Benefit of the Bank
- Managing Cash Balance in the Bank
- Planning
- Budgeting
- Marketing
- Loan Processing & Approval
- Investment Management
After successful completion of the probation period, you will be posted in any Bank branch as an “Assistant Bank Manager”.
PO should handle works on daily customer transactions like
- Passing a cheque
- Draft Issuance
- Cash Management
