Speed and Time – Quiz 2

shape Introduction

Speed and Time is one of important topic in Quantitative Aptitude Section. In Speed and Time – Quiz 2 article candidates can find questions with answers. By solving this questions candidates can improve and maintain, speed, and accuracy in the exams. Speed and Time – Quiz 2 questions are very useful for different exams such as IBPS PO, Clerk, SSC CGL, SBI PO, NIACL Assistant, NICL AO, IBPS SO, RRB, Railways, Civil Services etc.

shape Q1

A man walking at the rate of 5 km/hr crosses a bridge in 15 minutes. The length of the bridge (in metres) is
    A. 600 B. 750 C. 1000 D. 1250

speed = [latex](\frac{5 \times 5}{18})[/latex]m/sec
= [latex]\frac{25}{18}[/latex] m/sec.
Distance covered in 15 minutes = ([latex]\frac{25}{18} \times 15 \times 60[/latex])m
= 1250 m.

shape Q2

The number of degrees that the hour hand of a clock moves through between noon and 2.30 in the afternoon of the same day is
    A. 720 B. 180 C. 75 D. 65

The hour hand moves from pointing to 12 to pointing to half way between 2 and 3. The angle covered between each hour marking on the clock is [latex]\frac{360}{12}[/latex] = 30. Since the hand has covered 2.5 of these divisions the angle moved through is 75.

shape Q3

Akash leaves Mumbai at 6 am and reaches Bangalore at 10 am. Prakash leaves Bangalore at 8 am and reaches Mumbai at 11:30 am. At what time do they cross each other?
    A. 10 am B. 8 : 32 am C. 8 : 56 am D. 9 : 20 am

Time taken by Akash = 4 h
Time taken by Prakash = 3.5 h
For your convenience take the product of times taken by both as a distance.
Then the distance = 14 km
Since, Akash covers half of the distance in 2 hours(i.e at 8 am)
Now, the rest half (i.e 7 km) will be covered by both Prakash and Akash
Time taken by them = [latex]\frac{7}{7.5}[/latex] = 56 min
Thus , they will cross each other at 8 : 56 am.

shape Q4

The ratio between the speeds of two trains is 7: 8. If the second train runs 400 kms in 4 hours, then the speed of the first train is ?
    A. 83.5 km/hr B. 84.5 km/hr C. 86.5 km/hr D. 87.5 km/hr

Let the speeds of two trains be 7X and 8X km/hr.
8x = [latex]\frac{400}{4}[/latex]
[latex]\Rightarrow[/latex]x= 12.5 km/hr
So speed of first train is 12.5 [latex]\times[/latex] 7 = 87.5 km/hr

shape Q5

If Deepesh had walked 20 km/h faster he would have saved 1 hour in the distance of 60km. what is the usual speed of Deepesh?
    A. 100 B. 120 C. 150 D. None of these

Let the original speed be x km/h, then
[latex]\frac{600}{x}[/latex] - [latex]\frac{600}{(x + 20)}[/latex] = 1
[latex]\Rightarrow 600 \frac{x + 20 -x}{x(x + 20)} = 1[/latex]
[latex]{x}^{2}[/latex] + 120x - 12000 = 0
[latex]\Rightarrow (x - 120)(x - 100) = 0[/latex]
Therefore, original speed = 100 km/h
