  • US Chambers of Commerce released the annual International IP Index of top 50 economies in the world, in the index, India climbed 8 position up to the 36th rank and USA, as the lead.

  • In the index, Pakistan is at 47th spot and Venezuela is at the last place.

  • In 2018, India’s rank was 44th of 50 countries,the increase in the rank is dedicated to the various reforms made to the better alignment of India’s IP environment ,and one of the reforms ,was the agreement with Japan to initiate a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH).
193 Bangladeshis found locked up in shop house in Indonesia

  • Indonesian police have found 193 Bangladeshis locked up in a shophouse in Medan on the island of Sumatra in a case of human trafficking.

  • The victims had entered Indonesia as tourists and were promised work in Malaysia by the traffickers. Some of the people had been held by the traffickers for three months.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jalpaiguri to lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Falakata-Salsalabari section of National Highway-31 D.

  • According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, This 41.7 km-long section of National Highway falls in the Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal and will be constructed at a cost of about Rs 1938 crore.

  • The project will reduce the distance from Salsalabari and Alipurduar to Siliguri by nearly 50 km. This is significant as better access to Siliguri means better access to railways and airways.

Delhi government launches bike ambulance services

  • The Delhi government launched bike ambulance services to ensure timely health assistance in congested areas.

6th Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Released By Reserve Bank Of India (RBI)

Key Highlights:

  • Reserve Bank of India(RBI)’s six-member monetary policy committee chaired by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das released its 6th Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy. This is the First Bi-Monthly Policy for Shaktikanta Das after he took charge as the RBI Governor.

  • RBI had reduced 0.25 basis points in the Policy Rates with immediate effect. The Change in Policy rates are Repo Rate - 6.25%, Reverse Repo Rate - 6.00%, Marginal Standing Facility Rate - 6.50%, Bank Rate - 6.50%, Cash Reserve Ratio(CRR) - 4%, Statutory Liquidity Ratio(SLR) - 19.25%.

  • RBI Projected the Gross Domestic Product(GDP) growth for the year 2019-20 at 7.4%,While the GDP growth is at 7.2-7.4 per cent in H1, and 7.5 per cent in Q3.

  • Inflation was fallen 18 months low in December at 2.2% and it is expected to remain at 3.2-3.4% in H1-2019-20 and 3.9% in Q3-2019-20.

  • In a breakthrough in the massive Syndicate Bank fraud, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a Supplementary Prosecution Complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) against several persons accused in the massive Syndicate Bank fraud.

  • These persons are Shankar Lal Khandelwal of Guman Group, Jaipur, and his family members; Navrattan Cement Industries LLP; Navrattan Blue Crete Industries Pvt. Ltd of Himanshu Verma, Patiala; two bank officials Santosh Kumar Gupta, Deshraj Meena, their relatives — Bharat Bomb, Pooja Bomb, Vipul Kaushik and other persons before the Court of Special Judge, Jaipur, a designated Special Court under the PMLA.

India becomes World’s Second Largest Consumer and importer of LPG

  • As per Oil Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, India has become the second largest importer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) after China due to rising demands of cleaner alternatives to the traditional cooking fuels like firewood and cow dung.

  • India surpassed Japan as the imports of LPG grew 12.5% over the last 5 years to 12 million metric tons.

  • The demand of LPG is expected to rise 34% from 2014 to 2025.

  • In India, LPG is mainly imported from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iran.
