• The administration has relaxed the curfew from 9 am to 4 pm in Assam's Guwahati today. The curfew was put in place in parts of Assam and Meghalaya to avoid any untoward incident in wake of the violent protests against the citizenship law.


• News agency PTI reported that the protests showed signs of ebbing away in Assam and elsewhere in the northeast. However, parts of neighboring West Bengal were in throes of violence as agitators vandalized public property and clashed with police.

• The Gujarat government has transferred 24 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, including principal secretary with the ports and transport department, Sunaina Tomar.

• Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was among the 15 Bills passed by the two Houses of Parliament during the winter session with the Lok Sabha registering productivity of 116 per cent and Rajya Sabha of about 100 per cent.


• Talking to media persons, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said 18 Bills were introduced in Lok Sabha and 14 were passed by the House.

• India's foreign exchange reserves continued their upward trajectory during the week ended December 6 and touched new record highs.


• The reserves rose by $2.34 billion during the week under review, official data showed.


• The Reserve Bank of India's weekly statistical supplement showed that overall forex reserves increased to $453.42 billion from $451.08 billion reported for the week ended November 29.

• Shireen Dalvi (Shirin Dalvi), Mumbai based Urdu Journalist returned the 2011 Special Prize given by the Maharashtra State Urdu Sahitya Akademi to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).


• The Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019, amends the Citizenship Act of 1995 to provide Indian citizenship to illegal migrants who entered India on or before 31st December 2014.
